@Warp- Even as little Angus, I remember going down to the local indie department store and getting 45s for I think a buck each, sometimes on sale 2/$1. By the time I was ogling Farrah & Cheryl & Jaclyn, I had an elaborate stereo system of Pioneer SX-550 receiver, Technics Direct-Drive turntable, Pioneer tape deck, huge Synergistics speakers, and of course the obligatory 8-track player! Ahhh, 8-tracks...guaranteed to break. Think my first was Simon & Garfunkel and Alice Cooper "Billion Dollar Babies." I still have all that stuff! By then I was into album rock, and would go buy a new album, carefully clean it, listen *once* with Koss Pro-4AA heaphones, then dub it off onto Maxell UDXL-II with Dolby, thus keeping the vinyl perfect & new, and making the album ready for cruising with the Pioneer system in the '69 muscle car! Still got those too! My faves were Boston, Kansas, Styx, and Heart, and I'm to this day a huge Heart fan. I've seen them several times over the decades, including at Hard Rock Tulsa a couple years ago (2nd row). Saw Ann at Texas State Fair, standing 10 feet from her, in about '92 when Nancy was off having babies. I much prefer lady rockers, and love Chrissie too! Was never a huge Janis fan, but did like Grace Slick and saw some iteration of that band (I think 'Starship') at Six Flags Over Texas in Arlington in about '84. As I've said before, I got to see Queen with Freddy, and AC~DC with Bon too, RIP both.

Why, just about everything this boy enjoys is summed up right there---> Caught the 'Thin Lizzy' ref too, and RIP Phil. Saw the other Thin LZZY (Lzzy Hale) this past July from about ten feet away at a 'general admission small venue' (Read: sh*thole little club standing on a concrete floor with no chairs--and worth every minute of it!)

@BinB...I believe you've hit upon the unholy trinity from hell..like you, I can tolerate only a handful of exceptions..Willie Nelson's "On the Road Again," Patsy Cline's immortal "Crazy," and in opera, a couple of Pavarotti classics...from rap...zippo, nyet, nada. As for Patti Scialfa, I must confess to an unfamiliarity with her solo work, but I thoroughly enjoyed her stage presence with the E Street Gang. Speaking of something to check out...if you like James Brown, there's a couple of amazing concert performances to choose from; the clip of his incredible rendition of "Please, Please, Please me" from the TAMI concert in 1964, or better yet..his phenomenal concert from "Live at Boston Garden" in 1968 ( black & white DVD recorded by public television the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated)

@Warp- OMG, I *hate* country...and rap/hip-hop (and opera), as genres. Can find the rare song or two in each that I like. Except opera. Aaaaa-owwwwww! I feel GOOD! [nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nah-nahhh] Ever hear Mrs. Stringbean, Patti Scialfa? She has a song I really love called, "Play It As It Lays" from the "Rumbledoll" album. Check it out.

@BinB- I'm convinced...you are a true rocker..(nice to see not every Texan is countrified!) Your memory of stereo components back then puts me to shame..all I remember is I had a sophisticated rack set-up with top-of-the-line turntable, 500-watt receiver, 10-band equalizer, a Teac reel-to-reel, and four 5-foot tower speakers. Too bad you don't like Janis so much, but as they say.. different strokes...and yes..Grace Slick was hot.."Surrealistic Pillow" one of my all-time favorite lp's from the sixties... "and the pills that Mother gives you.." One more thing...as much as I love the lady rockers...my most memorable concert experiences were from the boys...two in particular..."The Godfather of Soul"..James Brown in 1969, and a truly life-changing event for me...the first of 7 concerts seeing Springsteen in '76, not long after "Born to Run" was released.

BiB..back in the 70's, whilst your hormones raged watching Cheryl & Jaclyn, I owned a record store in the frozen tundra..aka Wisconsin, (in the days when guys cruised in muscle cars, 8-track players blasting Grand Funk and the Doobie Bros, back when buying lp's and tapes was a far more personal experience than downloading off the net). In the ten years I had the joint (double entendre intentional) perhaps the best part was getting to see literally hundreds of concerts, including some fabulous female acts (Tina Turner, Chrisse Hynde, and Heart (oh to spend just 1 night with Nancy Wilson, I could die in ecstacy) But of all the great lady rockers, sadly I never got to see (except on the Woodstock and Monterrey DVD's) THE best ever, speaking of course of Janis. May she always rest in peace, "a piece of my heart" ringing from her lips.
