2023-04-18 23:10:57 You can be "white" and Latina all at the same time! Race and ethnicity are distinct from each other. In Alexis's case, her parents are Argentinian and Mexican. She grew up in a Spanish-speaking home and didn't learn English until she started kindergarten/first grade. Also, she refers to herself as Latina. Latinos/Latinas can have white skin, brown skin, and all variations in between. To think that "Latina" refers to a specific "look" is not the correct way to understand who they are as a culture and distinct - but shared -- origins

I agree that ethnicity and race are NOT often the same especially with the term "Latina" where there is a very WIDE spectrum of racial possibilities. So then your first post, about DNA, looks to be just flat out WRONG, or at least way waaaay overbroad.

2024-09-16 10:46:22 You're not wrong -- I'm definitely using DNA in a very broad, non-scientific way and unserious way (and for the record, I"m a biological scientist in real life). My intent is more along the lines that women who are descended -- wholly or partially - from original Spanish-speaking people (Spain of course - but also Central and South Americans, and then from their descendants anywhere in the world - generally have beautiful feet. This could be anyone from Salma Hayek, Victoria Justice, Eva Longoria, Jenna Ortega and - yes - Alexis Bledel. The more important takeaway is that Latino/Latina has nothing to do with the color of one's skin. There are "white" Latinas, "black" Latinas and "asian" Latinas, etc -- but something unites them all as Latina (whatever that might be - and we might never really know what that is) Anyway, Alexis is a beautiful woman with beautiful feet. And she's and Argentinian/Mexican who happens to have big beautiful blue eyes and lovely pale skin.
