2021-04-19 07:43:05 I've always enjoyed Madonna's singing career and most of her great music and accompanying videos... She seems to have single-handedly MADE the reign of MTV ('back in the day) with her ground-breaking videos.
I never paid too much attention to her personal life or her politics. She a phenomenal dancer and her feet are a big part of that. Those feet (and the feet of any professional dancer) work very hard and take a lot of abuse. Her feet look pretty good given the torturous life they've lived. Can't speak to how well she cared for her feet... but she's still here at 60 and her feet have survived, as well. Bravo. |

2021-06-14 09:31:02 I'm going to politely disagree about Madonna single-handedly making MTV. That would discount the contributions of a lot of popular acts in the early 80s like Lionel Ritchie, ZZ Top, Cyndi Lauper, the Go-Gos, Whitney Houston, Dire Straits, Springsteen, to name a few. I would certainly put Madonna in that class in terms of music and video popularity. But even MTV admits that it was a stroke of luck/fate that the network launched right before Michael Jackson went supernova with the 1983 release of his "Thriller" album (and its accompanying videos). When they say supernova, they MEAN supernova - and not just on MTV. Jackson couldn't go anywhere in the world without getting mobbed by cheering crowds.
Yes, the Material Girl certainly rose to fame during the early 80s, but nowhere near MJ's orbit. Nobody was. Now in terms of her feet, I totally agree. I always liked Madonna's well-sculpted dancers feet. The bit of wear and tear shows character and she's never been shy about showing them off . |

2021-08-16 11:21:22 No. MTV was well established by the time Whitesnake hit it big and Aerosmith had their comeback. Madonna certainty had a hand in it, but Michael Jackson was the one who helped make MTV into a huge network, with help from some of the early New Wave bands like Duran Duran and Culture Club.

2021-08-23 15:41:13 2nd British Invasion, Aussie groups, Madonna and many more. MTV was already big FAST before Michael Jackson's Thriller stuff and I'd say he got more from MTV than MTV got from his weirdness... I'm a Weird Al Yankovic fan and I'm glad he made fun of both MJ and Madonna. Madonna's writhing in a white bridal gown and slutty white stockings on the floor of the MTV awards show singing "Like a Virgin" was a very memorable moment. She pointed her toes nicely and I remember hitting "record" on my VCR. I had one early and it cost big bucks. All sweet nostalgia now.

2021-09-10 09:00:44 Good thoughts from all. There were other artists, of course, and the mid-1980s saw an explosion in popular music videos from established performers as well as and new. But remember, MTV launched in 1981. It easily could have failed in the years before a lot of those contributions you guys mentioned even took place. But it did not. One year later in 1982, along came Michael Jackson's "Thriller" album, with the title track released as a single in 1983. You literally could not watch MTV for longer than 30 minutes without seeing a Michael Jackson video.
Music videos were not new in the 1980s. Artists were doing videos back in the 1960s and 70s, but they were mostly low production efforts simply used to promote their new material. That all changed in the 1980s and like him or not, Jackson played a huge role big in pushing the video genre to a new level.
