2020-04-14 19:54:46 bet director, not costume designer, called the shots... perhaps with input from the designer... But all assumed general audience wouldn't notice much... They certainly wouldn't have a clue that circa 2020 we would be discussing it in such a specialized site... There's the mind boggling future they did not anticipate !!! We are the pervy Morlocks !!! haha

2020-04-15 00:40:52 True enough, though then again we're not exactly in the business of breeding Eloi females for food...
Assuming that it was in fact the director's decision, the question becomes one of why he had Yvette's character barefoot in that one scene (with a close-up sequence to make it clear she was barefoot) and then subsequently in other scenes either had her visibly wearing sandals or had the cameramen do their job in such a way that those of us watching 'The Time Machine' with a view to look at Yvette's feet (though obviously there are far more obvious reasons for watching the film) are never quite sure if her feet are completely bare or just sandalled... Incidentally, the original book describes the Eloi as wearing sandals but then goes on to describe these as being "fairly complex specimens of metalwork" (which would probably be just as ridiculous as it sounds). Since the sandals that we can see Yvette and other Eloi wearing in the behind-the-scenes photos are quite clearly of the more mundane (and more realistic) leather-sole-and-cloth-fastening variety, the people doing the adaptation were clearly prepared to make at least some divergence from the source material - particularly when, again, Weena is barefoot in the sequence that no. 3429068 belongs to (and in a subsequent sequence after Rod Taylor - not George as I previously and incorrectly stated - has managed to solve the 'random Morlock waiting for beautiful Eloi women in some bushes' problem) with no indication as far as I can remember that she had been wearing anything on her feet before getting dragged into some bushes by a random Morlock and subsequently when Yvette went barefoot for the promotional photographs (with these also including no. 335436, though in that case she's not in a jungle, there don't appear to be any Morlocks lying in wait for her, and for some reasons she's wearing her hair in a bun or ponytail...). |

2020-04-15 01:06:59 Perhaps these are "continuity errors" the director didn't care about or figured no one would notice? Things like this are surprising but not unheard of...

2024-05-28 06:50:41 I pretty much operate under a similar assumption, myself. Also, whose feet are those in your PFP, @Ye Olde Doc?

2016-02-06 03:50:09 It's so nice to see a gallery of an actress that doesn't have 450 nearly identical red carpet shots.

2016-02-13 14:55:05 I wonder what could be worse than red carpet pics.
|
2016-02-13 16:10:34 I would have to say 450 nearly identical movie stills.

2016-02-13 16:25:47 No pictures at all?

2016-02-21 15:20:10 Correcting myself: I love red carpet pics too, all of them with HR and enabling a good look of feet details. What I hate, and THAT was my mistake, is the huge number of them showing the same thing. This "thing of best angle" is OK. But some uploaders exagerate. Movie stills are subjected to the same overreaction.

2021-11-28 19:48:00 Is that really reinforced toe stockings with wide open toe sandals???

2021-11-28 20:00:46 Is that only a movie star look or was that typical?

2021-11-28 20:34:09 Honestly don't remember that being common, and I was certainly around and ware of reinforced stockings (not pantyhose) at the time of this movie (1967) called "Monkeys Go Home". Typically, women wore more closed toe shoes (esp pumps) or if open toe, much smaller. For wide open sandals, normally that was more summer, and barefoot, if at all. --- In later years that was seen as a major fashion faux pas. Indeed I'm surprised this movie was that late in the 1960s (1967) although stockings still ruled then.
