We don't really know how fotd or fotw is decided, but most likely it's a combination of ratings + comments over a certain amount of time.

The only candidates for FOTY are people who won FOTW over the past 51 weeks. Last week was the cutoff. If they do the same process for voting next year, she will be in the running. As far as how to get FOTW, there is definitely an algorithm that I haven’t quite figured out. It has something to do with rating against the amount of time that gallery was open that week. As a result, it’s rare that women that have been around for a while would get FOTW, as they probably had a lot of dissenting votes that week. Whereas a new gallery usually wins as there is less time that the gallery was open, so it’s ratio of positive votes is a lot stronger. It certainly isn’t a perfect system, but it works and does provide us with FOTD and FOTW of women who are much less well known.
