I understand the temptation when one gets powerful new software to work with. I used to do it more but then when I looked back a couple years later, I was horrified at the detail destroying and unnatural results. So it's best to "dial it back" - with photoshop itself, and a few of the better programs, one can lower the intensity of any change. Dialing it back, and then dialing back some more, is a better approach if one feels the need to do anything.
